PAO Surgery Enables Runner To Return To Competition

I’m a runner, but running is a lot more than just a form of exercise for me, it’s a big social element of my life. After running many months with pain that just kept getting worse, and countless PT appointments, I had to stop and get things checked. A fellow runner recommended Dr. Clohisy because of the vast experience he has with athletes. A simple X-ray and an MRI confirmed, I had a mild hip dysplasia and a labrum tear, so if I wanted to get back to running and not be in pain doing everyday tasks, I needed surgery. It was overwhelming to hear that, but Dr. Clohisy and his team walked me through options and we discussed my goals before recommending the best route for me!

We decided to proceed with a PAO. Recovery from PAO is long (and being in my late 30’s with 3 little kids at home was another layer) so having a team that has “seen it all” was so important. 6 months after getting my left hip fixed, I was able to get back to running and start rebuilding strength. 2 years later I went back to Dr. Clohisy to get my right hip fixed.

I have been following up with Dr. Clohisy on a yearly basis and can confirm that we’re both pleased with my progress. Recently I ran my first marathon post PAOs and qualified to the Boston Marathon. I couldn’t be happier I took that route. I can do everything I want to do now. I have my body back!
