The William H. Harris Career Development Award in Hip Preservation

Co-sponsored by the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine and the ANCHOR study group.

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Washington University in collaboration with the Academic Network of Conservational Outcomes Research (ANCHOR) study group, is pleased to announce the annual William H. Harris Career Development Award in Hip Preservation. This award has been developed to facilitate the training and career development of young surgeon/investigators interested in pursuing a career in the evolving field of hip preservation. This award creates a unique opportunity for focused clinical/surgical education, participation in the ANCHOR clinical research program and professional networking with experts in the field. The career development experience is characterized by:

  • Three month program including 3 – 4 ANCHOR site visits.
  • Site visits can be consecutive or independent during the program year (August – July).
  • Customization of the clinical and research activities in collaboration with the program director (John C. Clohisy, MD).
  • Clinical observation, surgical observation, and mentored cadaveric skills work.
  • Involvement in ANCHOR clinical research program.
  • Sponsorship for three cadaveric surgical skills workshops during the career development program.
  • One awardee per academic year.
  • The award will cover travel, housing, cadaveric specimens, research support and three surgical workshops during the program.
  • Participating ANCHOR sites: Washington University, Boston Children’s Hospital, Hospital for Special Surgery, University of Ottawa, Texas Scottish Rite Hospital, Beaumont Hospital, University of Colorado, Children’s Hospital of Pennsylvania, Laval University in Quebec City, Mayo Clinic, University of Michigan, Twin Cities Orthopaedics, University of Utah, Northwestern University, San Antonio Military Med Center.

 

Eligibility criteria:

  • Applicants should be Board eligible or board certified with completion of an orthopaedic residency program and preferably an orthopaedic surgery fellowship (including Sports Medicine, Adult Reconstruction, Trauma, or Pediatrics). A strong interest in hip preservation and an academic career are preferred. Applicants may apply during their fellowship year.
